Where to stay in Hamada

Hamada is big: the city stretches along the coast from Kokufu to Misumi and into the mountains around Kanagi and Asahi. Here you’ll find all the hotels, ryokan and campsites, sorted by district.

Stayed there myself marks the places I know personally. For all the others, I’ll tell you honestly when I don’t know something.

Central Hamada, near the station

Convenient for rail travellers: Hamada station is on the JR San’in Line, and the express bus to Hiroshima also leaves from here. Restaurants, izakaya and supermarkets are within walking distance.

Northern coast: Kokufu and Shimokō

A ryokan right on the coast, with a hot spring and a view of the beach.

Iwami Seaside Park

Wooden cabins, auto camping and tent pitches right by the beach, with the AQUAS aquarium next door. Check in at the park reception.

Misumi

Hamada’s west: rocky shores, small coves and peace and quiet.

Marine Hotel Harimo Stayed there myself

Hotel · Misumi-chō Furuichiba, right by the sea

A hotel with sea views and a large shared bath. Right behind it lies a shallow, rocky cove. The coastal photos on this site were taken there.

In the mountains: onsen in Kanagi and Asahi

Half an hour inland lie Hamada’s hot springs. The water of Mimata Onsen in Kanagi is strongly alkaline and is considered especially good for the skin in Japan. These places are hard to reach without a car, but I’m happy to help you get there.
